My project uses medical film as a window on the history of the mind of the child. Film is a particluarly interesting way to looking on the history of the mind of the child because it lays at various intersections: it cuts through disciplinary boundaries, travels beyond national borders, and mediates between audiences. In exploring epistemiological, cultural, and intellectual aspects of medical film on children from the early twentieht to the twenty-first century, I hope to shed light on how film as a medical technology has contributed to and shaped our scientific and medical knowledge of the mind of the child.
