Through the investigation of the strategies and tactics the San Juan de Santa Cruz family used in local contexts, my work demonstrates how Spanish colonists accessed the global economy. My research reevaluates the relationship of Mexico to the global economy and illustrates the important role of merchant- bureaucrats, located in the Americas, in the early modern world economy.
