<p class="MsoNormalCxSpFirst" style="line-height:150%"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB">In 1824, Mexicans worked on building a governmental structure. They struggled to consolidate a new political legitimacy and, at the same time, to reach an optimal political balance by equilibrating different forces –that either tried to acquire new advantages or to preserve historical privileges. Although they seemed to reach some sort of compromise, discussions about political legitimacy and competences of the new citizens and authorities were persistent issues. After the presidential election of 1828, the <i>yorkinos</i> rejected the election, challenged the authorities, condemned the “bad government” and its tyrannical oppression, and asserted their right of insurrection. 1828 and its struggles gave rise to numerous uprisings. The goal of this research is to analyze the “right to insurrection” during 1828-1832.</span></p>
